“US F-35 fighter jets landed at Ämari Air Base just a few days ago. This is a clear signal that the support of our biggest ally in ensuring the security of Estonia is unwavering,” said Prime Minister Kallas after the conversation. According to Kallas, the massive aggression of Russia and Belarus in Ukraine means that the security of both our region and the whole of Europe has changed. “That is why NATO has shored up its defence posture and is adapting. Our goal is a permanent and larger NATO presence in Estonia,” she explained.
During the conversation, Prime Minister Kallas and Vice-President Harris noted that allies and partners have taken large-scale steps to paralyse the war machine of Putin and discussed what more could be done to force Russia to end its aggression. According to Kallas, we must continue our joint efforts to deepen the political and economic isolation of Russia.
“Russia must pay a high price for its aggression. The pressure of the democratic world on his regime must increase. The co-responsibility of Belarus must not be forgotten either – sanctions must be extended to them as well,” emphasised Kaja Kallas.
Estonia and the United States are supporting Ukraine politically, militarily, and with humanitarian aid. Vice President Harris outlined the decision of the White House to ask Congress to approve 6.4 billion US dollars in humanitarian, economic, and security assistance to Ukraine and Central Europe to strengthen the security of NATO allies.
Kallas praised the United States for its large-scale assistance to the Ukrainians. They exchanged information on extensive activities in support of Ukraine and agreed that this should continue at an increasing pace.
