On March 31, a pocket siren test will be held in Pärnu, and test and training flights for the interceptor drone will take place in Ebavere, Lääne-Viru County

The Ministry of the Interior, together with its partners, is testing a next-generation emergency alert system—known as Taskusireen—today, March 31, in Pärnu.

The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences is also conducting test and training flights with a capture drone today, March 31 (between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM), on the grounds of its Väike-Maarja Training Center (Ebavere). In both cases, these are training exercises; there is no real danger.
The Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with Levira, TalTech, the Estonian Rescue Services Agency, the Emergency Response Centre and State Infocommunication Foundation, is carrying out a test in Pärnu today of a future-oriented public warning technology – Pocket siren. It is similar to cell broadcast technology but uses 5G media delivery based on a next‑generation broadcasting network.

On Tuesday, March 31, tests will be conducted in the city of Pärnu and its surrounding areas for the future public warning technology known as Taskusireen. The testing will use specialised mobile devices capable of receiving the relevant signal, as the technology, despite its significant potential, is not yet supported by most modern smartphones.

Levira and its partners have identified at least 12 mobile device models that already support broadcasting frequencies. This means that during the test, users of those devices may see test messages appear on their phones. Should this happen, it is important to remember that it is only a test and there is no real danger. The Ministry of the Interior and the partners involved in the testing would be extremely grateful if anyone receiving such a message could report it via the taskusireen.ee website.

On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., test and training flights of an interceptor drone will take place near Ebavere

During the exercise, a capture drone will be flown approximately 35 km south of the territory of the Väike-Maarja Training Center (Ebavere) of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. This is a safe test and training flight during which controlled dives will be performed with the drone, which may produce a muffled humming sound resembling an air siren.

The drone, which flies at an average altitude of 300–500 meters, differs from commonly seen drones in terms of its appearance, flight speed, and sound. A similar device is shown in the image attached to this post.

The drone is equipped with safety features that automatically return the device to its launch point in the event of a malfunction.
